{Kauai} Hiking the Okolehao Trail and Beyond

A look at Hanalei Bay

On September 13th, H and I decided to hike the Okolehao Trail to get some awesome views of Hanalei Bay and a good portion of the North Shore. We started out on the trail with no problems but couldn't find the "lookout point" that our guide book had talked about. We decided to keep on hiking on a trail of sorts on the spine, with heavy vegetation, drop offs on each side, as well as gnarly rope climbs up several steep cliff walls. [This is one adventure you don't want to be doing in the rain. It could be deadly.] It was so awesome and we reached a point that gave us amazing views of a good portion of the island. We headed back with perma-grins on our faces knowing we had just done something that not many people do, let alone tourists.
When we arrived back at our car, I looked in our guide book and it talked about a crazy, death defying trail that you shouldn't climb, but we sure did (on accident) and it was AMAZING! Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
[One recommendation if you're wanting to do this hike is wear long pants. Due to the veg overgrowth, our legs where cut up pretty bad. Totally worth it though.]

It was crazy seeing these kinds of tree's. Reminded me of home.

These picture's really don't give justice to the steepness of the trail.
