Backpacking: Four Lakes Basin

Four Lakes Basin is situated in Utah's beautiful Uinta mountains, which is only about a 75 minute drive from the SLC valley. A moderate 8 miles in and you get to this:
Jean Lake
But before I get ahead of myself, the beauty that Heinz and I encountered before we even hit the Highline trail was pretty outstanding. Take a look:
Lilly Lake

 Lost Lake

 View from Bald Mountain pass.

 Mirror Lake - that's fitting.

Now, back to the Highline Trail.

The Highline Trail is the main trail that leads to Four Lakes Basin. The trail itself is well maintained, however a bit rocky. You will pass several lakes and intersecting trails throughout the hike.

Scudder Lake with Bald Mt. peaking in the background.

We started the day off with gorgeous weather, but you never know how it will behave when hiking at 10,600 ft.
We arrived to the lake just in time for the rain and hail to pummel us. We actually took shelter under a huge boulder for a little relief. It was crazy, every time we thought the weather would let up, it would just rage on harder.

And the rain kept coming....

Luckily by dinner time, the weather cleared up and we were all blue sky's.

Perfect time for a little fly fishing. Heinz is a pro.
A beautiful hike with somewhat unpredictable weather. We will definitely be back.
Until next time,
Happy Trekkin'.
