I recently read an interesting article, Go Easy on Yourself, a New Wave of Research Urges, from the NY Times Well blog and thought that I would share my thoughts & opinions and remind everyone to be kind to yourself. (Something my mom has always told me throughout my life.)
To often, we are constantly bombarded with negative thoughts and energy floating around, especially internal thoughts and feelings about ourselves. We justify being hard on ourselves by thinking it is the only way to accomplish goals or to be driven. If we give ourselves too much "slack" then we will spiral out of control. It's like beating yourself up on an emotional level.
Although I believe it is important not to squander your potential or slack on your goals, it is equally important to take the negative, personal attacks and toss them out the window. In my opinion, giving yourself a little breathing room when things don't go as planned, can really help when looking at the big picture.
* Side note - these are only my opinions.
